don't forget Leah!

Leah finally had her chance to go up in front of the whole school at flag salute. I wasn't sure how she would do, but she seemed to be ok, although obviously shy and not sure what to do.
She earned the KC Award from her class for the month of January. She got another dog tag for her necklace and got to put her handprint on the wall of the cafeteria.
Later on that day she asked Dillan if he saw her when she got up. His response: Yes! I heard the last name Anderson and then saw you and I was like "Go Leah!" Proud big brother.
Since it was also the 100th day of school, she had her 100 beads necklace she had made specially for that day.
We are so proud of you LuluBee!
Keep up the good work

two!

Our little Drewby Doo is 2! He is so much fun at this age, although definitely starting to get more independent. Instead of following Mommy around like a little duckling, he now runs away laughing every time he sees me. Open a door in the house and he bolts straight for outside. 6 months ago our doctor told us to expect a huge boost in his vocabulary. It's been more like an explosion! He repeats everything and uses at least one new word a day. Like today it was the word "outside."

He also has a great love of music. Some of the songs he sings are Old McDonald, Jingle Bells, Popcorn Popping, and 4 Little Monkeys. He also sings the song from The Harry Potter Puppets "Annoying Ticking Sound," thanks to his brother and sister watching it nearly everyday during Christmas vacation. He gives kisses and hugs, loves to snuggle and cuddle dolls and stuffed animals. Whenever Gangnam Style starts to play, he starts to dance. Anything with a good beat gets him moving!

He loves cars and trucks, especially those with faces (like Lightning McQueen.) He eats pretty much everything except Mac & Cheese. He insists upon using a spoon and/or fork at every meal, and has started sitting on a chair at the table instead of his booster seat with tray.
He loves following Dillan and Leah all over and playing with their toys while they're at school. One of his favorites is Leah's Baby Alive. He likes to feed her juice and bananas when she asks for them. He is quite the babysitter!

Still faithful to his left thumb, although seems less over time.

Dear Drew,
You are the funniest kid around! You always bring a smile to our faces. There is so much energy and charm in you that brings smiles to everyone you meet. People on the street always comment on your adorable thumb-sucking and your sweet shy eyes when they say hello.
You love to play at the park and dance around when you hear a good beat (Gangnam Style). Your brother and sister love to play with you and help you explore the world. You have a great love for animals just like Daddy, especially dogs.
Whenever you cuddle with Mommy or Daddy it doesn't take long before you are sound asleep. You like to give kisses and grab the face you are kissing. You are so full of love and sweetness.
One of your favorite things to play with are toothbrushes. You like to open cupboards and put your sippy cup inside whenever you finish your (favorite) chocolate milk.
We love having you part of our family and are so grateful for the huge blessing you are in our lives.
Happy Birthday!

Love always,
 Mom and Dad

Disneyland!

For Christmas, Santa (via our Elf) gave us annual passes to Disneyland! We figured we would try it for a year. Then in 2014, we can get ready for Disney World! Our friends also have passes, and we've had so much fun with them!

Seeing everything decorated for the holidays was also a lot of fun. We even got snowed on one night!

It has also been good for the kids and their allowance money they are working on earning and saving. Dillan saved $100 in 2011 for Disney World and is now trying to save $200 for Disney World 2014.

Discovering California Adventure has been a blast. The kids find something new to try or see each time. We still have yet to try everything at both parks!

Even Drewby has been a trooper each time, even when he can't go on a ride. Definitely going to be a great year!

December

Lots of exciting things have been happening this month, even before Christmas!
First off, Dillan received the KC (Kindness & Caring) Award for his class for the month. He was called up in front of the school, received a dog tag for his necklace and put his handprint on the huge poster. He earned this award for showing kindness to another student. We are so proud of him!
The Kindergarten did a wonderful Christmas program the last day before vacation. Leah sang her heart out and did all the motions for all the songs. She mentioned to me how she forgot to stomp her foot in one of the songs, but her teacher told her that was okay to make a little mistake. She's becoming a little perfectionist!
After the singing, Drew and I got to go to her class and help make a gingerbread house. She knew exactly how she wanted it done and didn't really want my help at all, except to keep Drewby out of the way.
I did my best. The three of us went home full of sugar and covered in frosting!
The house turned out great! We went home for a quick lunch then went back to the school to watch Leah & Dillan's classes throw water balloons at the principal for surpassing their jog-a-thon goals. What a riot that was. Mr McTasney wore his regular shirt & pants with a SpongeBob tie. He also wore bright swim trunks, a shower cap and goggles. He was soaked and must have been chilly!
Both classes also had a snow-cone party.
We then went to Dillan's class where they had a stocking exchange. They also made friendship trail mix that Drewby and Leah helped eat up. Dillan's teacher made all the kids a red scarf with a green fish on it. They looked adorable. Dillan was glad his friend Garrett picked the stocking he had filled, and he came home with lots of good stuff!

It was a crazy busy day and the perfect kick-off to a fun Christmas vacation!

Most wonderful time

These are the 3 most amazing kids around. I learn from them daily and I am who I am today because of them. Everyday I try to be better for them. I try.
I love their smiles. I hurt when they argue or yell or get smart with me. I love it when they obey and I cherish the moments when everyone is happy, getting along and laughing. It feels right. I hope it feels right to them too and that they will try to make sure everyday is that way in our family.
I hope they know how much I love them and that there is nothing I wouldn't do for them.

Baby Chelsea

Earlier this year Chris and I felt that we would love to add another child to our family. We thought if we had another girl, that would be absolutely perfect and make our family complete. At the end of the summer, we found out I was pregnant. I was excited, as most women are. But, just like with Drew, we knew that nothing was in our control and that anything could happen. Nine months of worry, fear, and prayers came along with that little guy. Thankfully to a happy result. So we kept this pregnancy as quiet as possible so as not to get our hopes up too too high.
Then came the nausea. And nothing could disguise that.
I was so sick. It was constant. Even when I puked I still felt ill. It was miserable, I was miserable and anyone who saw me could see it. I made others miserable. The worst was Aug-Sept and the awful heat. It messed with my head. I wanted to move. Go somewhere cool. My poor family had to put up with my mood swings and quick temper. I knew I was a monster, but I didn't care.
The nausea continued into the second trimester. Slowly, people began to find out about the pregnancy. We even told the kids, feeling more confident once we got past the point of "high risk." Every day since it was all Leah would talk about. She wanted a baby sister more than anything. She knew the baby was girl. She wasn't going to have it any other way, really. It was at that point that we told the children they would "get what they get and not get upset." This was because I knew I was DONE. No way was I going to put my body through this again. Closing up the baby factory. For good.
On October 19th, I got out of bed to use the bathroom. Something happened. A gush of fluid. The rest of the day was tricklings of fluid. I knew something was wrong. I waited that weekend to see blood or feel pain. What I thought would naturally be the next step. On Monday I called Dr B. He pulled out his doppler and instantly found a heart beat. Ok, sigh of relief, so what was going on? He sent me to get an ultrasound to check fluid levels. The ultrasound tech took a long time looking things over on her screen, then finally left the room without saying much. She came back with her superior, a radiologist. He looked worried and called my doctor. They wouldn't let me leave the office until they heard from him what I was to do next.
I was on my way to Fallbrook and got a phone call from the doctor telling me to go to San Diego. Oh no. Not that place. That put me into a panic. Nothing good could happen from seeing the doctor in San Diego. I was deflated. Only 16 weeks along, I knew this was not good. But the baby still had a heartbeat!
At Mary-Birch, it was confirmed that my water had broke. Nurses with solemn faces telling me how sorry they were. But what about the heartbeat? Then the doctor with no emotion showed up and confirmed that there was no fluid around the baby. But what does that mean? She then told me I could terminate the pregnancy or just wait for my body to take care of it naturally. Again, there was a heartbeat. How was there any choice in the matter?
Both doctors told me I should count on my body going into labor a week later. At this point, our hope was gone. It already felt like a loss. I was put on bed rest and antibiotics to prevent infection. The way I saw it, there were 3 different scenarios of what was ahead. #1-I would get an infection and they would be forced to take the baby. #2-My body would naturally go into labor, the baby would be born but wasn't viable. #3-I would stay pregnant with a baby in a "harsh" environment, baby would not develop properly, have numerous problems if it even survived at all, which was only a 2% chance.
So the weekend came and went without any changes. I was feeling pretty good. Still pregnant and feeling baby move often. I tried to take things as easy as I could. I felt fine like I could get up and go through my daily routines like normal. I made sure to take it easy as often as I could. We told the kids that the baby was sick and so Mommy was sick and needed extra help. I saw my doctor every two weeks. He would do an ultrasound, check for "pockets" of fluid, and tell me baby's heartbeat was good.
Only once did he tell me the heart rate was extremely low and the baby's growth had slowed down. I should expect that this baby would not be alive next time I saw him a week later. Instead, the baby kept moving and the doctor told me the heart rate was back up and strong. Crazy roller coaster of emotions continues.
I kept telling myself that everything was in Heavenly Father's hands. It was easy to say and gave me comfort. Of course I had my moments of feeling down and feeling responsible for what was happening. It was my body, not the baby, that was struggling.
The weekend after Thanksgiving is when contractions started. Saturday night they were mild and I figured they could stop on their own. Middle of the night they were painful and I was awake and nervous. I knew what was going on, but didn't want to believe it. At 5:30 we called my parents and told them I was going to the hospital. They came right over and stayed with the kids. We arrived at the ER in Fallbrook and told them the situation. I was put in a bed with a monitor, and still heard a good heartbeat. But the contractions were stronger now. I had a nurse who was certain that I would be going home and my labor would cease. The pain got worse and the doctor assured me that there was no stopping it.
I didn't understand why there was no effort to try and stop labor. I still don't, but I'm not sure if I'll ask my doctor about it.
Little Chelsea came on her own that morning, with no effort from me. She was born with a heartbeat. I knew I didn't want to see her. Chris stayed with her the whole time. My bleeding didn't stop and the placenta wouldn't deliver. I was whisked away to surgery.
Waking up was hard. I remember seeing a clock that read around 4:30. What had happened to the day? I was taken to a room where Chris was waiting. He said there were some things he needed to tell me.
He told me the baby lived for an hour and twenty minutes. He said that since she was born alive that she would be given a birth certificate and she was now our responsibility. I was not expecting to hear that. I was also told I lost nearly half of my blood and may require a transfusion. I was pale, dizzy, and my emotions were out of control.
Chris was the champion. I told him I didn't want to have a burial for the baby. He made a bunch of phone calls after talking with parents, nurses, and hospital staff and decided that a burial was the right decision. He kept busy figuring out details and bugged me to help him name her.
We had a small service for her in the Fallbrook cemetery. It was perfect, not too much. We released pink balloons with the kids, had a lot of family and good local friends come to support us.
The kids are the biggest help in getting through this hard time. They have reminded us of the simple truths of the gospel and know that our family is eternal. Some are on earth, some are in heaven.

Tenessee/Halloween

Lucky us! We got to spend Halloween with our favorite cousins in Tennessee! It actually feels and looks like fall out there!
Trick-or-Treating this year was Kai the Ninja, Minnie Mouse and the Cowardly Lion. We joined Rapunzel, Thor, and Milli (from UmiZoomi). Minnie got over the candy thing relatively quick. She went to a bunch of houses and then decided she was done. Not sure why.

Such good times being altogether. We were there for Roxy's 8th birthday and baptism.
We even toured a cave in Kentucky and Dillan was able to find nice rocks for his science project. Drewby made a new friend.

It was so special for us to be there. We sure do miss you guys!
