I guess I always knew I would marry a guy who was athletic and competitive. Hey, that's how I was raised! Along with that, I love to see Chris' loyalty to his team...the Utah Jazz. See, in my extended family, we occasionally watch sporting events, or at least discuss them in great length. Normally, everyone is on the same side, bagging on the opposing team, and sharing convincing arguments about why a certain team is the best. Everyone usually agrees and it's settled. Well, not so anymore. The Jazz will face the Lakers in the playoffs starting Sunday. Oh no! Many of my family members have been Laker fans for a while. Whenever Chris is around, there is always a discussion about who's better and why. In fact, even if it's not the Lakers playing the Jazz, no one wants to see Chris' team have a victory! They'll cheer for their opponent every time! How easy it would be for him to either jump aboard their bandwagon or remain silent, somewhat defeated, and not stand up for his team. But he doesn't! He stands behind them 100%, always has, always will. What a guy! You can't buy loyalty like that! Basketball has always been the one sport that I've really never excelled at. (Although in our stake women's game last week I did score a whopping 6 points, watch out!) But, thanks to the outstanding example of love and loyalty by my husband...I too am now a Jazz fan and so are my children.

Our year of sports goes something like this:
NCAA Football: Chris and I (plus my immediate family)- BYU
Some of my family- USC - yuck! I can't explain that one!
NFL: Chris - Dallas Cowboys
Family- Whoever is playing the Cowboys
NBA: Chris- Utah Jazz
Family- LA Lakers or whoever is playing the Jazz
MLB: My family (we converted Chris)- LA Angels of Anaheim - woohoo!
Rest of family - "Baseball's too boring to watch!"
Don't misinterpret, we are the tightest family full of love and support for one another that you'll ever find. My family fits Chris like a glove. He can't believe how close we are. Maybe a little My Big Fat Greek Wedding-ish, but that's how we like it!
So...after all that what I really meant to say is
GO JAZZ!

I have NO team loyalties whatsoever. I like to see BYU win, but only because everyone in Utah county seems to care so much. If they don't win, then I have to hear about it during Sunday School the next day. Somewhat inappropriate church discussion, don't you think?
Anyway, Soccer rules in our home. When the world cup is on life around here stops. We actually got TiVo 2 years ago SPECIFICALLY to be able to record those games at 3 am being broadcast from halfway around the world. I don't think that Marcelo knows that any other sports exist.
And I TOTALLY remember that Marcelo was obsessed with your video collection. I think that's because he used videos to help him learn English at that time.
As for baby news, no, we don't know what it is. We want to be surprised. Actually, I want to be surprised and Marcelo had no choice in the matter. We are both feeling that it's a boy, but we secretly want a girl. We've had a boy's name picked out for a while, but we don't know about girl names. If we DO have a girl, we are going to be stuck in the hospital for a while until we can find a name we can both decide on.
I hope I get to see you when you come to town! Who knows if the baby will be here by then? This baby thing is getting kinda scary!
Hey, it was scary for me with baby number 2 as well as #1. I feel your pain with baby names. I have a few boy names that I love, but very few girl names. I guess I've always been afraid that my daughter would be cursed with my same low self-esteem and shyness. So finding the perfect name to overcome all that? Yeah, I still don't know if I did the right thing in naming her Leah.
Soccer is the greatest. I think Dillan is going to be too big to play soccer, so Leah is my hope for raising a soccer player. Chris wants her to be a ballerina or gymnast. Not with these thighs! She'll be a girl after my own heart.
Great to hear from you! We'll be in touch. Enjoy the wait to labor and delivery. Oh yeah, no one ever tells you about the recovery after delivery. That for me was the WORST thing after giving birth to Dillan. I'll splerge the details if you want. I just can't believe no one ever told me!
Ok, you are the SECOND person in a week to tell me the EXACT same thing about the recovery being the worst part of delivery. (And about how no one told them about it) And it scares me that no one has mentioned it before now! Why is that?
Names are a big deal because of the Latino Heritage that I want to preserve. Here are the rules:
1)It needs to be easily pronounced and recognizable in English and Spanish.
2)I don't want it to be spelled funny or have the name easily misspelled. For example Marcelo likes the name Anabel (that is the Latino spelling of the name) but I know that everyone everywhere will spell it Annabelle or Anabelle. I don't want that (Also, my sister has a daughter named Isabel, so that won't work either)
3)I don't want it to be generic. I don't want my kid to be named Oliva or Ava like every other kid being born these days. I mean, I don't want my kid to be named LaGerkin or anything crazy like that, but would it be too much to ask that parents think outside the box of Madison or Jackson?
Anyway, you can see we are having name issues. Read my blog post about it found here: http://familialoor.blogspot.com/2008/01/im-so-excited-im-so-excited-im-so-so.html
A Jazz fan...what the heck!?!?! I would have never thought! I'm not really a fan of anyone...
Ok, I had a c-section...but, it was still horrible. Learning to breastfeed was probably harder though. I'm glad I am past that phase! But...it is all worth it. Just power through!
Kim, you are like the ultimate soccer player! You rock! I remember you were so talented. I played soccer, but not as good as you did!
We had so much fun in high school!!!!! I miss seeing you! I am so glad to see that you are doing good! I love checking your blog!
I am concerned about your love for the Jazz..frankly, I'm concerned for all people who live in Utah. You are from Rancho, I thought you'd be stronger than to give into Utah beliefs. Next thing you know he's going to convince you that Utah really is "Zion". Come on, we KNOW that ain't true!
Jenny, Jenny, Jenny...I lived in Utah for 8 years! I don't like it! I visit and get the heebie-jeebies just thinking about what it was like to be there! The Jazz, yes, I don't mind them. I support my husband. But I've never been a Lakers fan. Ever. And one more thing, you gotta be a local to call my home town Rancho. And, if you knew that, you'd also know that I don't claim Rancho. They are the cross-town rival. Thanks but no thanks. Love ya Jen!
