Props and more Pumpkins

In the words of Dillan: "That was a super long family night!" True. But it was a blast! We had Daddy home and most of the late afternoon to kill. Naturally inspired Sarah called at that precise moment to remind us of the Prop 8 campaign along Winchester. Thanks Sarah! We were able to get everything together and out the door in 10 minutes. We first stopped at a store to find a birthday present, where Dillan did not want to leave. I told him we were going to hold up the yellow signs with our friends. He's been educated on the yellow signs, but not much else Prop 8 related. He's decided that it's our family characterised on the sign, and reads the Y-E-S letters over and over.
He was then told to wave every time he heard a horn. He was diligent for about ten minutes, then retired.
Chris set up our stroller with 3 signs draped around, played music from his phone, and ate snacks with the kids while I held the sign. Diligent. It was great seeing all the people lined up on the streets and feeling a great sense of unity with members of our ward and stake. I guess the pioneers had to stand up for what they believed. This is our time.

Since we were right in front of Barnes and Noble I had to take a gander (since the kids were in the car!) and came out with a crisp new 2009 planner. Finally. I'll be back BandN. Soon.
We then hit the corner pumpkin patch on the way home where Dillan got to ride the "super big scary pumpkin slide" that's been haunting him for the past month. Everyday we drive by it, he would remind me how big it was, but he still wanted to ride it. He did it 4 times. Alone. I was very impressed that he didn't even need a Daddy as a buddy at least the first time. Today after school he proudly announced that he went on that slide all by himself and he wasn't even scared!

Not that I'm a highly outspoken political person, but I really enjoyed holding the Prop 8 signs and having my kids with me. No matter how much I'd like to deny it, I realize this world is not perfect and I can only wonder how much worse it will get. I think about what kind of issues my kids will face. I hope I will have the strength to fight along side them for what we believe.

I totally agree. On I-15 there is a billboard with a man's butt crack 45 feet tall. It's not just a little plumbers crack either. It's full on pants pulled down, cheeks squeezed together, A FULL MOON.

I only have a baby, but what if I had a 3 year old that can look outside and ask what the billboard means? What about if I have a 6 year old little precious princess that doesn't need to be exposed to some man's private parts? Maybe I'm a prude, but it really upsets me that this billboard is allowed to be out in public without some sort of rating or warning to everyone. I guess it's time I stand up for something. Even if it IS butt cheeks on I-15.

BTW, did anyone yell at you or throw things at you? I want to hear stories about that!!!

Everyone keeps saying "I can't wait until Nov. 5." Well, whether this passes or not, I have a feeling this is just the beginning of our battles. But, the good things and people in this world are getting better and stronger too!
Good for you for standing up for what you believe and teaching your kids to do the same!
